Well it’s been a bit of a slow week for emails, but I haven’t forgotten about you 🙂
This week was the start of a new training program for me which has brought me back to some metabolic training circuits for the first time in 7 months.
This is a program I’ve done before and even though I was expecting the circuits to kill me, I felt fantastic. Conditioning seemed to be better and I was using heavier weights than the last time I did this program.
Apparently the sole focus on getting stronger and adding muscle over the last 7 months has worked out pretty well. Always nice to be able to actually feel the fruits of your labor.
Diet is always the hardest part for me – as it is for most people. I just love all food, healthy or not healthy. But that has been pretty dialed in this week also (except for my planned “off day” yesterday – I ate a lot yesterday and I regret nothing…)
So, today is back dialed in for nutrition and an active recovery “rest” day for training with a curling game this afternoon.
If you’re not following me on Instagram, you should be (@cmakarchuk) because I’m posting more about my workouts and diet lately in my Instagram Story.
Alright, now that you’re caught up, let’s get into what I’ve found to be worthy in the world of fitness and wellness this week:
BUILD YOUR BODY
Why You Should Train Your Breathing For Better Movement – Girls Gone Strong
Considering we take more than 24,000 breaths every day, it might be a good idea to look at some ways to improve how we breath. This article is amazing and has some very good video demos as well.
OPTIMIZE YOUR NUTRITION
Stop Trying To “Hack” Your Diet – Breaking Muscle
Along with the phrase “1 weird trick to…” the word “hack” makes me want to put my head through a wall. Brad Borland (who wrote this article) feels the same way, so I like him. This is a very important article to read, maybe twice. It lays out 4 things to STOP doing and then gives you 5 things to START doing instead.
CONQUER YOUR KITCHEN
Reinventing Dessert: Espresso Brownies – Born Fitness
Like chocolate? Yeah, who doesn’t. Well this recipe can fit into any fat loss nutrition plan as an “anytime” meal and will give you the same (ok, maybe slightly less) satisfaction as the real deal.
STRENGTHEN YOUR MIND
7 Holistic Benefits Of Meditation – Yoga Journal
If you needed more reasons to start implementing some kind of meditation or mindfulness practice, here’s 7 of them. My favorite is #6.
There you have it, some weekend reading covering all the bases of fitness and wellness.
Have a stellar weekend and we’ll chat again next week.
